Overview

Fomtec LS EXP is a high expansion foam concentrate designed for use in various high expansion systems. It consists of hydrocarbon surfactants blended with solvents and stabilizers, containing no fluorinated surfactants, polymers (PFAS), or other organohalogens. Depending on the equipment used, it should be applied at a 2-3% concentration in fresh or seawater to achieve medium or high expansion foams.

Applications:

Fomtec LS EXP is a multipurpose foam for low, medium, and high expansion on Class B fuels like diesel, gasoline, oil, and aviation fuel. Tests with "inside air" confirmed its efficiency in extinguishing large Class A and B fires. It also performed well on E85 fuel (85% ethanol). At medium and high expansion, it floods confined areas with Class A and B fires. Medium expansion suits small spaces like cellars and basements. High expansion works for large areas like warehouses and ship cargo or engine rooms. LS EXP also proved effective on LNG fires, creating a foam lid to suppress gas.

• Appearance: Clear yellowish liquid
• Specific Gravity at 20°C: 1.01 ± 0.01 g/ml
• Viscosity at 20°C: ≤ 30 mPas
• pH: 6.5 – 8.5
• Freezing Point: 7°C
• Recommended Storage Temperature: 7°C to 55°C
• Suspended Sediment (v/v): < 0.2%
• Surface Tension: ≤ 23.0 dynes/cm

Fire Performance & Foaming:

The fire performance of Fomtec LS EXP has been measured and documented according to international approvals. Foaming properties depend on the equipment used and variables such as water and ambient temperatures. Using the UNI 86 test nozzle, the foam achieved an average low expansion of 9:1 and a ¼ drainage time of 9 minutes and 30 seconds. When used with Fomtec high expansion generators, the following average values can be expected:

• Fomtec Bele L: Expansion at 6 bar: 450:1
• Fomtec Bele S 400: Expansion at 4 bar: 600:1; at 6 bar: 750:1
• Fomtec Bele S 800: Expansion at 4 bar: 600:1; at 6 bar: 750:1

Storage and Shelf Life:

When stored in its original, unbroken packaging, Fomtec LS EXP has a shelf life exceeding 10 years in temperate climates. Shelf life depends on storage temperatures and conditions. For storage recommendations and material compatibility, please refer to Fomtec Technical Advice FTA 10.
